Prizes won in FIS- 1st Std

20/09/2010
Am sure the image explains the achievement :-) This is her 3rd certificate for the year from her school.
  • 1st place in "What's the Good Word"
  • 1st place in Hindi Solo Song competition (patriotic)
  • 1st place in Hindi Recitation Competition
  • 3rd place in Quiz competition
  • 1st place in Fancy Dress competition
This is what she recited for the Hindi recitation competition:

She missed winning the Kannada recitation competition, because she did not sing her poem. She recited "yelladaru iru, yentadaru iru yendendigu nee kannadavagiru..." But this disappointment brought in some aggressiveness to win the fancy dress competition. There was hardly any time for us to prepare. Both of us agreed that she would play the part of Koravanji. But where was the time to prepare!! Saturday was a busy day, Sunday was her singing competition at Rajajinagar. I had asked her dad to carry his laptop just incase we could squeeze in sometime to browse through the net for some lines for a Koravanji. Monday morning was her competition. Sunday night at 8.00P.M., we were at "ajja mamas" place and thats when I remembered that we were still not prepared. Out came the laptop and into the room we went for the practice session. Within 15 mins Ahana had memorized her song & lines for the fancy dress competition. This is how it went....
kani heluve..naanu kani heluve...then she sang the 1st two lines of the song "iddaddu iddhange nadadiddu nadange" from the movie Srinivasa Kalyana and then she explained what a Koravanji meant. Costume search happened over the net, but then tatadaaaa...ajjamama & atthe dug up their house to search for the saree that she is wearing in the pic below..then within the next few mins came the basket & stick that she has in her hand. If it weren't for their efforts, I would have to sit through the night to get a basket & stick ready at home with whatever material I had! A BIG thanks to them. On our way back, we picked up the flowers..and upon reaching home at 9.00P.M. drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I went to buy some more accessories required to complete the costume, the bun for her head, bun clips, kadha for her leg, the big bindi, the malas. All set. Morning baby got up at 6.30 and was ready by 7.40A.M to do a round of dress rehearsal. This was the November 15th. Today November 24th, she got home a certificate. She had won it!!! All efforts had paid this time :-)

Doodle4Google Contest entry

Came across this contest while watching POGO. Topic given was My Dream for India, using the GOOGLE logo.
Concept from parents and implementation from Ahana...
We complete this below piece first and at the time of submission got to know that we were not suppose to use the Indian Flag/ Ashoka Chakra anywhere...and we had actually done that..

So then again with just one day left for submission, Ahana did the below one today. This is her entry for the Doodle4Google 2010 contest . We came up with the following theme & described it as follows:

Topic: Land of peace...cradle of woman
Our GOOGLE shows u this...
G - Religious harmony
O – Lord Buddha for peace
O – vision of father of nation
G – Indian woman standing shoulder to shoulder to men
L -  Leaders in technology, mission to mars and beyond
E – Every Indian girl is educated

A country where people of all religions live in peace under the guiding principles of Buddha and the vision of Gandhiji. Women would be the driving work force in a nation which will show leadership in technology.
We were done with this by 3.30PM today and rushed to courier it at 3.45PM. Hoping that it reaches the organisers by tomorrow. A lot of thinking from all of us :-) and double the efforts from Ahana...to have colored it twice.

Nubol

Here again we have the baby talk happening. My 1.8yrs old has been talking so much these days...and most of it which is understood only by me...
Last weekend we had a birthday party to attend and he was all excited to be there...seeing so many people, balloons, cake, kids. The moment we reached the party he started saying nubol nubol nubol...which obviously I didnt understand. This is when he said the following:
appy to youuuu (Happy birthday to you)
take (cake)
nubol ( Balloon) while pointing to the balloon.

another one...mangol...what could this be I wondered???
Then he said...ajja...mangol (grandpa Mangalore)

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan: A Clown's cry for the Moon

Update: The painting submitted by Ahana didnt win the prize, but was shortlisted :-). Take a look here: http://www.indianstage.in/events/tfc_paintings.html

Ahana looks on as other kids enact the play on the stage

Kids with The Clown

Ahana singing Gudiya chalti chaand chalta gudiya rukti chaand rukta

Had booked for 3 plays but ended going up only for one as Ahana was not keeping well. That one play was also worth it, to see her laughing, smiling & singing with the characters after 2 day long of illness.

The story is of a lonely little girl who does not have a sibling and is alone at home, the only friend she has is the Moon. One night when she is out for a walk she hears a Clown cry who is so hungry that he is ready to eat up her best friend thinking it to be a chappati. The girl requests the clown not to eat the moon and promises to get him nana vyanjan..which means Varieties of delicious food from her grandmother. This story is about the girl bringing him the food and the people she meets on her way back. Songs in this drama are to be sung by the audience. The play was done first by the actors and then children who attended this play were invited to do this play again.

Ahana loved it, coz she got the chance to go up the stage and sing for Gudiya (the lonely girl). The good part about this was the audience participation and parent encouragement.

Thorough entertainment from children....from those who knew Hindi and from those who didnt :-)
thats her entry for the drawing contest

Appa & Amma are proud of you

Date: July 17, 2010 Venue: Chennai Convention Centre, Nandambakam, Chennai
Event : UCMAS 10th National Level Abacus Competition
Reporting Time: 8:45A.M Time given: 5 mins
Achievement: 4th Rank Karnataka State level, 28th Rank National level
What is this all about….Ahana was to participate in the 10th National level Abacus competition. Time given is 5 mins. She was to take up the KG2 exam..to be done with Abacus(not mental maths). There were guest speakers who took the first 45 mins, getting the kids impatient. In total 4000+ children had participated at various levels that day.
1 ½ months of preparation for this competition, with the summer vacation in between to spoil the rhythm. The seriousness was not known to her until she saw the number of kids there. The 5 minute competition ended, Ahana had done 35 sums. Most probably she would have done all 35 correct. She’s a slow baby, but accuracy is something that maintains. What more to expect from a 6yr old.
Next day we logged into the net hoping to see something good…No prize as expected…but something surprising, Ahana was ranked 28th at National Level.
We immediately called up her Satish Sir and gave him the news…if this girl had put in little more effort she would have definitely won a prize, is what he said.
Well, first experience…its got her charged completely…she saw the other kids doing it at a faster pace…now she knows she has to work harder to be on TOP. I don’t have to push. Good experience, enhanced confidence, fight in a competition, speed….all of it gained, nothing lost.
All in all, we are proud of her for securing 28th rank at National level.

Updated August 9, 2010: Ahana also stands 4th at Karnataka state level. She has won the 3rd Runner-up position at Karnataka level.

No no no to Go Karting

Thats how she started. Dad was ready to take her to experience Go-Karting, but she refused...scared...of what she had seen in TV in car racing :-)
Her baby bro was all ready to experience driving, but refused to put on his safety helmet, so the authorities did not allow him. Dad wanted to go, so somehow managed to coax her into this. Helmets on, heartbeat racing, no smile..thats how she sat there :-) But by the time they completed 3 rounds, she was all smiles :-)

Operation

Ahana was to undergo a small surgery to get a fibroid removed from her back. A little nervous baby, wanted to get it all done the night she got admitted.
Ahana: Why cant the doctor do the operation now?
Amma: Because doctors dont do operation at night. They go home at night.
Ahana: But it would be best if they operate children at night.
Amma: Why?
Ahana: Because children will be sleeping at night, so they wont come to know when the operation is done.

Mommy Baby adventures 1- Rangashankara

I chose this subject because I see myself doing this more often in future...there's gonna be a lot of outings with just me and kids :-)
With Appaji sitting in Chennai...and enuf of tensions for the weekend & start of the week, I decided I needed a break...
Took Ahana to Rangashankara yesterday...Zapperdockel & the Wock (puppet show). 40 mins show...Ahana had a good time laughing. Had my online tickets booked to make things easy. We reached the venue 1/2hr early. Had Sabudana vada & Banana custard pudding at Rangashankara, yummmmm. The kids got to sit on the stage, so got a close look of all the puppets. Nice short play with lots of puppets(Wock), water & sand J I think Ahana is at the right age to enjoy it to the fullest...
On our way back Ahana wanted Dosa with green chutney for dinner...so stopped over at Anand Bhavan in BTM layout...Post dinner had to wait for 1/2 at the restaurant for the rain to stop. I had happily left my helmet near the scooter...so when we planned to return, my helmet had got converted to a bucket of water. Covered Ahana with my duppatta & her scarf...I put on my jacket and drove home with whatever visibility I had with half my eyes open. Lucky that Ahana did not get wet...I had mosquito bite like boils over my face by the time we reached home (because of rain & polluted water I guess).

She's now Six

This was the most unplanned Bday parties ever...She wanted to call her close girl friends for a party. The girls were taken to Dominos Pizza close to our house and we didnt know that Five girls could make so much of noise. We were glad that the other visitors to the place did not complain :-). The girls had a ball of a time, running all over the place. Cake cutting time....for the first time Ahana got Cake cream applied on her face, which actually got her upset. All girly girly that she is, the idea of looking messed up irritated her. Her granny helped her get clean.
Ajjamama & athe, Chacha chachi also made it to the party.

Butterfly

Teacher asked each child in the class to talk about Butterfly
Most students answered, "I want to be a butterfly because I like flying"
My dear daughter said, "I like butterflies, because it has so many colors, and I love colors."
