Baby Talk

Amma: Am very hungry, lets go home soon and have our dinner.
Ahana: How can you be hungry, you just had a piece of cake with me.
Amma: That was just a half piece of cake, that the baby in my tummy had.
Ahana: You ate the cake, the Baby would have eaten only the cream because it does not have teeth.

Baby bath

Dad: We take bath everyday, but what about the baby in mamma's tummy?
Ahana: When mamma drinks water, the water will clean the baby. It will always take head bath.

Riddled

My mum has been keeping Ahana busy by teaching her new things. The latest is on Riddles. One of the easiest one which Ahana picked up was,
Doctor came, gave injection & flew away. Who is it?
Answer: Mosquito

Similarly one or two more riddles were taught to her to make her understand the logic.

Last week, in Times Of India, there was this riddle:
I can fly, but I am not an Aeroplane
I am full of water but am not a River.
What am I?

While my mum was still searching for the answer, Ahana silently gave out her answer...Cloud.

Being naughty

Amma: Stop fooling around and come & sit next to me.
Ahana: No, I want to sit here and eat.
Amma: You've been a bad girl. You dont listen to anyone these days, am going to tell your ma'am
Ahana to granny: illa :-( (with tears in her eyes), Amma does not like me
Amma: Who said that amma does not like you.
Ahana: Amma does not like me, thats why she keep scolding me.
Amma: You act naughty, thats why amma scolds you.
Ahana: You scold me, thats why I am naughty.

Who's clever

Ahana was refusing to drink her milk even at 6.00P.M. Her granny finally got fedup with her and said that it was already too late.
Ahana then suddenly looked up the clock and said, "I will have the milk when the needle comes to 20"
Amma: something wrong with your eyes? There is no 20 in the clock
Ahana: No, only clever people can see it :-)

Blanket adjustment

Ahana seems to have noticed the care we take to keep her warm at night, by pulling up her blanket every now and then. Saturday morning her dad got up late, but did not miss out on noticing that Ahana had got up early and before leaving the room, she had adjusted the blanket for her dad. My caring lil daughter :-)

Pappa at office

Friday evening Ahana was busy drawing the attached picture in her drawing book. One she said was Amma, big in size, and the other she was said was Baby...herself...as it was small in size. My mother-in-law asked her to draw a third person...Pappa and Ahana said, he's at the Office :-)

Goddess Durga

Now thats Goddess Durga. Ahana & I had been to my mum's place for a few days when my brother was here in town. And we got a chance to show Ahana Yakshagana.

She thoroughly enjoyed the show which was put up by a troop which had come from Karkala. They enacted the story of Goddess Durga & Mahishasura story. She liked the story, the strong Mahishasura & the strength of the Goddess. After the show next day, my mum made her a Trishoola (Durga's weapon) with a piece of cardboard. That's it...for the next few days, we had to see Goddess Durga dressed in my dupatta with her weapon standing and jumping around.

A Class monitor in the making

We as parents have always felt proud whenever we have visited her school during Parent-Teacher meets. Every meet we get to hear that she is an all-rounder.

Last year in Nursery class, her teachers used to ask us to teach her to use the word "Sorry"....the most difficult word for anyone to say...who accepts mistakes afterall ;-) But after many stories and counselling, she started to use the golden words...Thank you, Sorry, Please, Welcome. And by end of the year, on her last day of School, she was given an award for best student in Academics. I would thank her teachers Gayatri & Veena madam's for the good behaviour & English they taught to my child. Gayatri took special care for the children to teach them good English, good habits & cleanliness. Veena on the other hand took care of getting the creative part of the child out, by teaching them drawing & craft. Both patient, yet strict when required.

This year again she has Sugandhi & Archana madam as her class teacher. She has been rated the All-rounder in her class and is the first one to lift her hand when asked questions in the class or volunteer for any activity. Every day Ahana has newer ways to impress them and manages a star from them everyday.

Yesterday Ahana was proudly showing off the star that her teacher had given her on her hand.
On being asked, why she was given one, she said, she had helped her teacher in collecting all the papers that been distributed in the class and given it to another teacher in another class. Her class teacher had then thanked her and given her a Star on the back of her palm.

Our days of schooling, any child who is an all-rounder would be the class monitor/ mentor. I never was one :-), may be she will be.

Scanfusion

My mother-in-law was taking a look at my scan reports and trying to make head & tail of the scan pictures. And there I was explaining to her each of the pictures. One of them had only the baby's face in it. A nice sculpted face. Ahana came over excitedly to watch the picture. She could not understand why it was all black & white and neither could she make out the face of the baby.
I started to draw it on a piece of paper, and showed the side profile of the baby's face.
I realised she wasnt happy. For sometime she kept quiet, and then she asked me to draw the eyes. I did it for her. Then again, she said complete the head...make it round :-). I did that. And before she could say anything, I drew some hair on the baby's head.
She asked me why the baby had so little hair, so I said it was still small.
Then she asked, if it was boy or a girl, I said I dont know.
So she said, its my small brother or sister.

Butter Baby

Ahana & her dad were having a verbal fight. I jumped in too, and asked her. Are you mamma's girl or dadda's? And with a naughty look she answered, "Mamma's girl".
Dadda said: I am anggrry, am not going to talk to you
Baby said: appaji, I will give you kiss.
Dadda: I dont want it, I am still angry
Baby: Dont worry Appaji, I will give you nice hug, to just make you happy :-) and she jumped up to him to give him a nice warm hug.

My sweet little girl

Its been just three months since I updated this blog, but it seems as if years have passed. Ahana seems to be having more matured thinking all of a sudden. She knows that her amma has a baby in her tummy, that’s why she cant sit on her amma. She picks up things for amma coz amma cant bend. She has been waiting for her little brother/ sister to come out so she can hold it, play with it and sleep together. She is jealous that amma & appaji get to sleep together, whereas she gets a separate bed to sleep on. She is waiting for her brother/ sister to come so she can get to sleep on a bunker bed. She waits for family day(mostly weekends), when she can sleep together with amma & appaji, that’s the only day, when the bed does not seem small for all of us to sleep together. She is willing to share her extra pillow with her amma (but not with her appaji J ). To her, amma will need it because she might have a back pain.

Her dad has been taking SERIOUS interest in her development. He wants her to know and learn everything, be it throwing & catching a ball, cycling, writing numbers or alphabets, playing on computer & laptop or reading. There is so much development in such a short time that we are surprised.

Her tricycle has been lying in a corner for the past one year, and finally it has come to use now. Both husband & I have been the sporty types throughout our childhood. We have managed to teach our close ones how to ride a cycle and with our own child we had been facing difficulty to get her to cycle. After much of pushing, she has started cycling. It is the right motivation & the fighting spirit that gets her to do things. Yesterday, for the first time she cycled on the road. And I was happy to see the interest she had the speed at which she could pedal. The competition to her was our next door neighbour girl, five years older to Ahana. Her father always tells that she is on the fatter side, hence unable to cycle, but I have always asked him to give her some time. Finally, after seeing her cycle so well in the last few days, he has this urge to pick up a new bicycle for her. I as usual have asked him to hold on for a year, she needs to enjoy this, make her legs strong, strong enough to handle a bigger cycle.
Whenever her father is home early, he spends time with her, ball catch catch (throwball), teaching her number games on the his laptop & holding the pencil right while righting. She has picked up each of these activities really fast. We have realized, the more time we spend with her, the quicker she is in picking up things.

She was making fuss to go to her music classes two weeks back. Every Saturday morning I had to wake her up convincing her to go in a new dress to show to her teacher. Last weekend, I just told her that I want her to sing just like her amma. Amma used to get a lot of appreciation & prizes when she used to sing at school and she wants the same from her daughter and wants her daughter to teach her new songs. That did it. For the last two weeks, Ahana has been going for her classes without any trouble.

She picked up on using the touchpad in one go yesterday. She still remembers using Paint that her Mama taught her the last time he visited India. The fighting spirit in her, tells her to write again & again till she perfects what she is writing. She is not willing to give up. It’s the challenge that makes her work harder.

Her father got her the KungFu Panda CD a month back. She has watched this movie so many times that she remembers each and every dialogue. We loved the movie and some of the teachings it carries. And to our surprise she uses some of them at the right time. “Don’t worry master, I will never quit” is a perfect line for her.

She is totally a mamma’s girl right now. She believes in me totally, and I have been trying hard to keep that faith alive by telling her whatever I can. Her father believes in convincing her by telling her stories & bribing her J and I believe in convincing her by telling her what is possible & what is not. For now, she is my sweet little girl.

TV Influence?

Today Ahana was convincing her dad that she is a grown up now. And she showed it by standing next to him & showing him that she reached his waist length.
Husband then asked her why she wanted to grow up so fast...why could'nt she remain the same cute chubby girl. And she said, just like Simba says, because...."one day..I just cant wait to be King". (this is a song from Lion King movie).

Auto-Car

Last weekend we had taken Ahana to Dominos for her favorite meal…Garlic Bread with cheese dip.
Husband stopped the Car at a walking distance from Dominos…but for Ahana it seemed to be too far. She refused to get down. I opened the door for her and asked her to jump out. After all the buttering…that did not help really…I finally told her that she had better jump out fast else some vehicle would just come over and hit & take the Car door. And Ahana was quick enough to tell that the Car would then turn into an Auto :-)

Helping others- a coincidence

On the day of Ugadi- April 14th, Daughter & I were on our way to my mum's place for Ugadi dinner. Her dad & granny were to come home later. We were half way to the house, and daughter comments, "amma if someone meets with an accident, we will help them, we will call for an ambulance". And I just asked her not to talk like that. Told her no one should meet with an accident. After which we moved on to talking about other things that were moving on the road.
Mum had prepared special dinner for us-- Carrot-Orange Pulav made with Coconut milk, Raita, Rice & Rasam, Kaju katli, Dahi wada & Bread-Custard Pudding. We finished up with the dinner and started back home around 10.30 in the night.
We had just reached the end of the road, when we saw a man lying on the road..shivering. Luckily people had already gathered around him, checking his belongings. It turned out, he had a medical card which stated that he had severe trouble of getting fits and was carrying some medicines with me. With a little bit of consciousness he managed to tell that he needed those medicines. The moment the medication was given, he told that he was hungry. Someone helped him with water. My husband came back and checked if we had anything to eat with us. It was that I had carried some Dahi wadas with me. We gave the whole box to that man and started back home.
There was silence in the Car, each of us in our on thoughts and suddenly daughter announced, “amma, didn’t I tell you, that we will help if someone meets with an accident”.

Looking at the size of the hearts, her dad commented, baby, ajji's heart is very big so why have you selected the smallest heart on your dress as ajji?
So baby said, "no appaji, ajji is short know, thats why small heart is ajji heart".

The Apple Tree

Daughter staring out of the Car window. A boy walks towards the Car with a sad face, tattered dress, trying to ask for something..
Daughter to Dad: Appaji, what is he asking?
Dad: He is asking for money
Daughter: why? Is it because he wants to eat mummum and doesnt have money to buy it?

Dad then reminds her of a bedtime story that he had told her a few days back. Story goes like this...
A boy from a poor family is very hungry one day. He has just one Apple to eat. Hunger continues even after he's had his Apple. The boy goes to his father. Father doesnt have any money to buy him anything else, but gives his son an idea. He asks his son to sow the seed of the Apple and water it daily. The boy sees the plant coming...waters it again...the Apple tree grows...the boy sells the Apples and makes money for his living...and now has lots of money to buy whatever he wants.

Dad to Daughter: So what should this beggar boy do now?
Daughter: He should put a Apple seed and sell the Apples from the tree and then buy mummum instead of asking money from us.
